Whine and Sneeze Here's some news that won't surprise my female readers: men whine more when they're sick than women do.
A British men's magazine asked 2,000 men and women how they fared during last year's cold and flu season. More men than women reported being sick - 64 % vs. 45%. And the vast majority of the men (83%) said the best way to get better was to just stay in bed, while over half the women said they just keep going.
The male recovery plan doesn't seem to work, though, since it took men twice as long as women to get better - an average of three days for men vs. one and a half days for women.
As a man, I have to point out that this is by no means a definitive study! But come to think of it, my own experience with patients seems to confirm that men as a group are considerably less hearty and definitely complain more when it comes to their health. Hmmmm. I guess that makes me a man whining about men who whine!
One thing both genders agreed on: chicken soup is the best home remedy. It would have been interesting to know who makes the soup.
