Ancient Asian remedy treats infection

Alleviate allergies, lose fat, and treat your bladder infection all at one time?

That’s a tall order for an herbal extract, but forskolin is purported to do all of those things.

About 90 percent of bladder infections are due to E. coli bacteria, affecting women four times more often than men. Some folks even suffer repeated bouts with the infection.

Part of the problem is the way the bladder is designed. It is lined with little pouches that stretch out as the bladder fills. Some of the bacteria hide in those pouches, so that they manage to escape when the antibiotics come through to perform a sweep. That’s where your recurring infections stem from—because the problem was never entirely eliminated the first time!

In recent tests, the herbal extract was shown to help these small pouches in the bladder to eliminate the E. coli bacteria that hide there. Once the bacteria are loose from the pouch, the antibiotics can kill them.

The reason that bladder infections are treated with antibiotics is that they can spread into your kidneys if you don’t get a handle on them.

Forskolin, derived from the Indian Coleus plant, has been used in Asia to treat a range of diseases—including urinary-tract infections. It can be found in health-food stores as an extract and as a supplement. Your best bet is to locate a doctor who is familiar with Ayurvedic or herbal medicine. Consider using forskolin as an alternative to antibiotics, which can upset your normal bowel flora and damage your immune system over the long term.
