Fungus helps fight cancer—with a boost from green tea
You could do a lot worse than a steaming bowl of reishi mushroom soup and a mug of green tea—especially if you want to fend off cancer.
This immunity-boosting duo is being studied intensely by scientists, who believe they may act together synergistically to keep you vibrant and healthy for a good, long time.
A research team tried an experiment with lab animals genetically engineered to develop sarcomas, a cancer of the connective tissues, and the results were promising. Tumor growth was repressed and death was delayed. Tumors that were weighed at the end of the study period were reduced by 45 percent in the animals that received the combination therapy, but the reduction was not as significant when reishi was used by itself.
Green tea contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that is also found in berries and other plant sources. Reishi mushrooms contain two active components, polysaccharides and triterpenes. There are several products now on the market that combine these components into an extract.
ReishiMax and Tegreen, both made by Nu Skin Enterprises, are formulations that contain these ingredients. You can find them at www.nuskinenterprises.com.
