They ACT like it’s urgent…
They INSIST that lives are on the line…
They WARN that the drugs must be approved ASAP or we’ll lose the war against some of today’s deadliest cancers.
The drug industry has pushed to get its expensive cancer meds onto the market as fast as possible—often with little real research. And their pals at the FDA have been only too happy to make it happen.
They’re rubber-stamping the drugs as quickly as they can, and new research CONFIRMS this is working out about as well as you’d expect…
Because four out of every five drugs approved via this “fast track” system later FAILED to deliver on the most basic promise of all!
The cancer scam targeting innocent patients
Of the 93 cancer drugs given fast-track approval over 25 years, just 20 percent were found to deliver better survival rates in required post-approval studies.
That means 80 percent have never had that benefit proven, either from flunking studies or – in too many cases – they never actually study it (even when required to do so).
The new report exposes a host of SCAMS to make these drugs look better than they really are.
For instance, here’s a good one…
For 21 percent of the drugs in the study, the required research done after fast-track approval had DIFFERENT GOALS from the studies done before, making true comparisons impossible.
That’s not just like moving the goalposts in the middle of the game.
That’s like changing sports at halftime!
Even more shocking, the study finds several drugs FAILED to meet required goals in required post-approval studies.
Two drugs were OK’ed based on encouraging response rates in early research. As part of that approval, the feds REQUIRED the drugs’ makers to prove two other benefits in new studies:
- Progression-free survival
- Overall survival
I bet you can guess what happened.
They hit one target, not the other – and although it was REQUIRED that they meet both goals, the FDA gave the drugs full approval anyway!
In another case, a drug given for brain tumors showed NO IMPROVEMENT in either survival or quality of life in later studies.
Yet again, the FDA granted the drug a full approval.
These aren’t the only little tricks they pull…
Drugs are often approved based on “secondary” measures that may or may not make a real-world difference, such as tumor size and grade.
For example, if you shrink the tumor, or slow the growth, the FDA will call that a benefit… even if DOESN’T lead to improvements in survival or quality of life.
Folks, if you or a loved one have cancer, don’t be a victim of this outrageous money grab…
